<p>I originally trained as a primary school teacher, my path over the past two decades has been guided by a deep personal connection to holistic health and natural healing.</p>
<p>I trained at the White Lotus College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, a school renowned for its high standards and authentic TCM practice. <p>The Touch For Health Synthesis is an amazing modality, which has already reached millions of people worldwide and is the forefront of complementary holistic therapy.</p>
<p>You will learn about the different energy systems that are in our bodies and specific muscles that are related to them. These systems help us to maintain balance and harmony within the body.</p>
<p>There are no pre-requisites to learning Touch For Health or for existing healthcare practitioners to use in conjunction with their own therapies.</p>
<p><b>Module 1: 15 Hours</b><br />
This is the introductory training to Kinesiology, providing techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine to balance the 14 muscle/meridian/ organ relationships &#8211; for improved postural balance, and improved health and performance. This course provides practical everyday applications of Touch For Health Kinesiology for increased well-being on all levels. 2 days of training only.</p>

<p>The following modules are taught at separate weekends as part of a 4 weekend &#8216;synthesis&#8217; course. Dates to be decided for October to December 2025</p>

We begin to unpack when their mental health symptoms first showed up, and suddenly we have moved into the opening of a story.</p>

<p><strong>Mental health symptoms as unspoken stories</strong></p>
<p>A story may go far back in time to infancy or beyond. It could be a quiet story that unfolds over time, or it might be a single event that shakes us to the core. Whatever way our stories happen, they demand to be heard. There are parts of the self that do not want these stories to be told. Not to anyone, and they get cut from the script and stored away behind the locked doors of our defense mechanisms. These parts of the self are trying to protect us. They want to stop us from feeling overwhelmed by emotions such as shame, grief, horror, and helplessness.</p>
<p><strong>Mental health symptoms as a cry to be heard<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-1295 alignright" src="https://carrigalinewellnesscentre.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/overcomeanxiety.jpg" alt="" width="275" height="183" /></strong></p>
<p>Mental health symptoms distract away from the original story, which feels like a safer option. We might start to become afraid of flying, germs or social situations. We might start to use alcohol and drugs, take to the bed, or develop physical complaints and illnesses with no medical explanation. Before long, these symptoms becomes the only story, as they slowly take over everyday life. This is when support can help.</p>
<p><strong>Psychological therapy for sharing the unbearable</strong></p>
<p>Sharing what happened in the past is a difficult and often frightening process. A client must feel safe and ready. Our most painful stories are not only shared in words, but through emotional release from the body.  Words come as we try to make meaning of what happened. It is a slow and gentle turning towards the truth of our life, and as we take each step along the journey, it gets a little easier. With skilled and compassionate support, we realise that these stories do not need to overwhelm us and can help us to learn about who we really are. We often realise that we have held some unkind and untrue beliefs about ourselves. We can cultivate a more compassionate way of being with ourselves, and we can re-write the script.</p>
<p><strong>Psychological therapies: The stories we feel are the stories that heal</strong></p>
<p>Having worked as a clinical psychologist for many years, I have seen traditional talking therapies evolve in such hopeful and inclusive ways.  The growing recognition of traumatic memories being held in the body, is reflected in the rising popularity of yoga, craniosacral therapy and kinesiology to name a few. Some therapies also include working with the energetic and spiritual bodies. There are techniques to resource people so that a client can feel safe and not overwhelmed. There is so much support we can now offer in telling the story of what happened, what did not happen, what needed to happen, what can be let go of, and what can be integrated for a full and meaningful life.</p>

<p>The Leaving Cert is one of the most stressful events most of you will ever have experienced..</p>
<p>BUT&#8230; it doesn&#8217;t have to be!</p>
<p>AND &#8230; <strong>You&#8217;ll Perform Better</strong> if you&#8217;re <strong>Less Stressed!!</strong></p>
<p>Most Leaving Cert Students experience;  Anxiety / Worry / Over-thinking, Irrational &amp; / or Aggressive Behaviour, Bad sleep, Poor concentration, Stomach pain &amp; Catastrophic thinking. Headaches, Fear of failure / Going blank</p>
<p>None of these symptoms are helpful! None will make you perform well in an exam.</p>
<h2><strong>This Course</strong> will show you&#8230;</h2>
<ul>
<li>How to create a <strong>bombproof shell of calmness</strong> around yourself.</li>
<li>Techniques to diffuse stress quickly and simply</li>
<li>What to do when you feel anxiety or other emotions building up</li>
<li>How to stop being affected by other people&#8217;s stress (BOUNDARIES)</li>
<li>How to build up a reserve of calmness</li>
<li>What to do to prepare your mind for the exams</li>
<li>What to do if you go blank</li>

<p>At the moment these classes are being run ONLINE in small classes. They run over 4 weeks in 90 minute classes. One parent must attend.</p>

<h2>Tips for Staying Calm</h2>
<p>Number 1 – Control your Breathing.</p>
<p>You’ll recall how your body changes in fight/ flight mode. Your breathing and heart rate speed up and you get a spike of adrenaline. When you slow down your breathing you calm your nervous system generally. That’s why meditation teachers have been getting people to use it as part of their practice for thousands of years. There are several simple breathing techniques that I teach for exam stress. If you do them for a few minutes, even in a crises it will help with stress levels. You simply cannot breathe regularly and slowly and remain in a survival state. Breathe slowly and without force with eyes closed for best results.</p>
<p>Number 2 – Visualisation</p>
<p>I’ve been practicing forward visualisations for years and I’m always amazed at the results. It works well with breathing techniques. When you close your eyes and visualise a positive outcome in the future your brain starts to create the emotional state that allows for that possibility. I use it a lot for public speaking. When I practice it before I give a talk, the result is that I feel like I’m having a conversation with one person. It’s easy and enjoyable. The crucial part is this. You have to think about the event that you find stressful while you FEEL good. Your brain attaches huge value to the feeling and starts to move towards it. I get tremendous feedback from students who practice this technique.</p>
<p>Number 3 – Move</p>
<p>Your brain and body have evolved to respond to stress by moving. The fight / flight response is a call to action. Unfortunately your brain doesn’t understand that exam stress requires you to sit! By taking action you satisfy your body’s urge to move.</p>
<p>Studies show that short bursts of vigorous exercise are extremely effective. This to me seems natural as it mimics what you would do if you had to run away from a bear. This is how the brain is designed. When you burn off the adrenaline your nervous system will feel better. The added benefit of doing this regularly is that it sharpens your brain for learning. The fitter the body, the better the brain and the calmer the mind.</p>
<p>Number 4 – Eat clean, healthy food.</p>
<p>Preparing for final year exams is similar to preparing for a sports tournament. A huge amount of energy will be required of you. So it’s vital that you establish a healthy diet. A varied diet with good quality vegetables is essential. You need to get good nutrients into your body so that you can maximise your energy. Good fats, good vegetables, clean meats are all important. Lower your sugar levels slowly as you increase the intake of the other foods and you will improve your concentration and alertness. Drink plenty of water. It helps to clean out the body and your brain loves it.</p>
<p>Coffee and energy drinks can negatively affect some people so I don’t recommend using them. Very often you can get a burst of energy and then a crash which leaves you worse off that before you started.</p>
<p>Number 5 – Sleep</p>
<p>Waking up tired because of poor sleep starts you off on the back foot. An important aspect of sleep is winding down before you go to bed. Stop studying an hour before hand and put away smart phones and TV. Go for a walk to clear your head or do some meditation. There are specific yoga stretches for night time that will also help. Another great way to make your body and mind relax is an Epsom salts footbath, taken for fifteen to twenty minutes.</p>
<p>Also, one of the added benefits of exercise is that your body is tired from it and sleep becomes easier. Finally don’t eat too late and drink calming herbal teas.</p>
<p>Summary</p>
<p>So remember, if you are studying for important exams and you’re feeling the pressure, remember that too much stress makes everything worse. You can balance the stress with breathing techniques and exercise, by visualising a positive outcome and eating and sleeping well. If the whole thing is becoming overwhelming make sure to tell a parent or teacher and get some help from a professional. No matter how important you think the exams are, nothing is more important that your health. So keep yourself as calm as you can.</p>

<h1>How does Law of Attraction Meditation work?</h1>
<div>It&#8217;s quite simple really&#8230;.</div>
<div>If you&#8217;re in a bad mood, it&#8217;s likely you&#8217;ll put the people around you in a bad mood too. Similarly, if you are anxious you&#8217;ll generally make people uneasy.</div>
<div>The positive side of this is just the same thankfully, in that, when you are in a good mood people respond well to you.</div>
<div>If you have children you&#8217;ll already know all about this.  Children look to their parents for their own sense of safety and are hardwired to pay close attention to them. When parents are stressed a child will often show &#8216;bad&#8217; behaviour or become anxious or angry, in spite of  the best efforts of mom and dad to hide their stress from them. The stress for the child is an energy felt in the atmosphere around them, and they feel it as a threat.</div>

<div>
<div>From a meditation point of view, the state of mind you are in, whether you are calm or stressed, easy-going or hyper, is the energy that you hold for yourself and emit as a human being, affecting those around you.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>And, your energetic state which changes all the time, is deeply influenced by your personal history.</strong></div>

<div></div>
<div>We all have habitual patterns, good and bad that we go in and out of throughout the course of each day. The bad habits cause us our problems, like;</div>
<ul>
<li>repeating cycles of negative experiences</li>
<li>poor self regulation</li>
<li>negative self thinking</li>
<li>Low self esteem</li>
<li>negative relationships</li>
</ul>

Usually this takes the form of 4 or 6, one hour classes, spread over as many weeks. It&#8217;s designed to help with stress. So we describe it as a &#8216;busy&#8217; class.</p>
<p>We keep you busy, your mind is occupied doing activities that relax your body. We use breathing techniques, body scans and visualisations. You can make a practice of this yourself and it&#8217;s a great way to get into meditation. If you are interested in a beginners meditation class in cork, this is a great place to start.</p>

<div>Working on myself in this way has become a very important part of my life. It has helped me to knit together all the pieces of development work I had been doing in the past.</div>

The thing I&#8217;m most happy about is that my family life is better. I&#8217;m happier around my kids and they are way, way happier because of it.</div>

By being kind and gentle with yourself you can change the internal dialogue that makes you stressed, anxious, overthink, overwork, and get overwhelmed.</div>

<div>So we begin the workshop with this meditation. Then to help us to relax and feel warm we move into <b>Yoga</b>. Ruth guides this gentle Yoga class. It&#8217;s very very slow. It&#8217;s very easy. The postures are held for a while. There&#8217;s no rush. It&#8217;s meditative, we&#8217;re being gentle here.</div>

<div>After this, when we are deeply calm we do some &#8216;sleep&#8217; meditation. Very often we&#8217;ll all drift off for a bit. Now we have really unwound.</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;"><strong>Energy Balances</strong></h3>
<div>If people wish, Ruth and I can do a gentle energy &#8216;check&#8217; and balance for you. Some Reiki or Kineisolgy can be done where needed to help you relax or release a block.</div>

<div>The Qigong work is taught be me in the afternoon and this is used to help to boost your energy. We go through a range of gentle standing poses and movements.</div>

<div>The whole day is designed to wind down your stress and build up your good energy.  You should feel back to yourself, invigorated and ready to tear into the world again!!</div>
